74-year-old arrested for hosting underage drinking party

CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) -- A 74-year-old woman is in jail after police say she hosted a party where she allowed minors to drink.

It started when police say they responded to complaints about a loud party taking place on Rye Drive in Cabot. Deputies say they discovered about 40 people all between 17-19 years old.

According to investigators, homeowner Martha Dubois, 74, became belligerent towards authorities and
attempted to pour out a large bottle of an alcohol beverage. Dubois was
arrested for contributing to the delinquency of minors
and violation of the host law.

"Underage drinking will not be tolerated," Sheriff John Staley said in a release. "Anyone allowing teenagers to possess or consume alcohol beverages will be held accounted for."

The minors at the party were issued citations.

Fresh, local strawberries hitting Arkansas stores

LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- Farms are buzzing in Lonoke County this time of year-- it's strawberry season!

You may of noticed the delicious berries showing up in local grocery stores or even farmers market. Holland Berry Farms in Cabot was out in full force today picking and moving along rows of perfectly ripe strawberries. They even have a produce stand along highway 321.

Owner Larry Odom says the late spring has them just right this year.  "We've had a mild fall and our strawberries produced a lot of flower buds and we've had a good spring, even though it's a late spring, everybody's got a good berry crop this year, as far as I know."

The ideal weather for strawberry ripening is 75 degrees during the day and 55 degrees at night.

Holland Bottom farm says they hope to keep harvesting until the 1st of June and they're also the most flavorful crop since starting in 1983.

Today's Box Office: Gatsby!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV 11 Film Critic Jonathan Nettles on Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

In my younger days, I was required to read a novel.

"It's the great American novel," said my 11th-grade English teacher.

I recall that at the time, I gave it my best effort. I think The Great Gatsby may have been one of the few assigning reading materials that I actually read all the way through.

If I saw a youngster of high school age in line to buy a ticket to 2013's visually stunning Baz Luhmann directed The Great Gatsby, I'd encourage him to save $10, go to the library and get the true version for free.

Outdoor Report: Protecting injured, abandoned baby birds

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV 11's Mark Edwards talks with wildlife rehabilitator Rodney Paul
about what to do if you come across an injured or abandoned baby bird.

Along with wife, Paul owns and operates Raptor Rehap of Central Arkansas in El Paso. He says people have the instinct to want to help somehow if they come across an injured animal. However, Paul says that's not in the best interest of the bird at all.

In the nine years that Paul and his wife have owned Raptor Rehab, they've successfully released more than 500 birds of prey back into the wild. Many were injured and some came in as orphaned birds that had been pushed or blown out of nests.

In this week's Outdoor Report, Paul explains why it's so important to leave caring for these birds to the experts.

Also, be sure to check out the photo gallery of Cheyenne the Owl from her visit with THV staffers Tuesday afternoon.
